Align Movement

NOT LEFT. NOT RIGHT. DO WHAT'S RIGHT.

A Movement for the People. Not the Establishment.

The future must be more aligned with the people who live in it.

ALIGN is an independent civic movement founded by Nathen Mazri on a simple principle: government should work for people, not the other way around.

We believe good ideas have no political colour. A policy should not be rejected because it comes from the left, the right, a conservative, a liberal or an independent.

If it works for people, it deserves consideration.

ALIGN is not a political party. It is a movement for independent thinking, responsible government, economic fairness, compassion and public accountability.

We are not here to defend political establishments. We are here to challenge ideas, question decisions and encourage a better future.

Founded in Canada. Open to the World.

The underlying philosophy isn't exclusively Canadian.

  • Government should serve people.
  • Public institutions should be accountable.
  • Economic prosperity should benefit communities.
  • Good policies should be evaluated beyond party affiliation.
  • Compassion should be reflected in economic decisions.

These principles can be discussed internationally.

WHY ALIGN EXISTS

THE OLD GUARD'S GOT TO GO.

Too many people feel that their governments have become disconnected from everyday life.

The cost of living keeps rising. Housing becomes harder to afford. Young people struggle to build their futures. Families work harder while worrying about bills, taxes and financial security.

Meanwhile, political debates often revolve around party loyalty, ideological divisions and the interests of powerful institutions.

Who is looking after the people paying for all of this?

ALIGN believes that public institutions must evolve alongside the generations they serve.

Today's world is changing rapidly:

  • Artificial intelligence is transforming employment and industry.

  • Housing markets are reshaping opportunities for younger generations.

  • Technology is creating extraordinary wealth, but its benefits are not always widely shared.

  • Healthcare, childcare and eldercare are becoming increasingly important.

  • Rising living costs are challenging the financial security of ordinary households.

  • Communities are demanding greater transparency and accountability.

We cannot solve tomorrow's problems by automatically repeating yesterday's solutions.

The future deserves fresh thinking, modern leadership and institutions that listen.

The old guard's got to go—not because of someone's age, but because outdated thinking, complacency and unaccountable decision-making have no place in our future.

THE PEOPLE ARE KINGS AND QUEENS

BOW TO TAXPAYERS.

Nathen Mazri introduced a simple philosophy during his 2026 Toronto municipal campaign:

"The people are kings and queens. Public officials should bow to taxpayers—not the other way around."

This is not about ceremony. It is about responsibility.

Public office is a position of service, not superiority.

Every tax dollar represents someone's labour, time and contribution to society.

We believe residents deserve:

  • Respect from public officials.

  • Transparent decisions and accessible financial information.

  • Meaningful opportunities to participate in public policy.

  • Responsible management of public money.

  • Honest explanations when governments make mistakes.

  • Public services that respond to modern needs.

  • The ability to hold elected representatives accountable.

Government should be closer to the people—not closer to special interests.

THE IDEAS BEHIND ALIGN

WHY NATIONS FAIL — AND WHY INSTITUTIONS MATTER

One of the intellectual inspirations behind ALIGN is Why Nations Fail, by economists Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson.

The book explores a powerful question:

Why do some nations prosper while others struggle?

Its central argument emphasizes the importance of political and economic institutions.

When institutions distribute opportunity broadly, protect rights, encourage innovation and remain accountable, societies have stronger foundations for prosperity.

When institutions concentrate power and economic opportunity among a small group, prosperity can become increasingly unequal and difficult to sustain.

ALIGN draws an important lesson from this research:

The way we govern influences the way we live—and the economic opportunities available to us.

Politics is not merely about elections.

It influences housing, employment, taxation, public investment, entrepreneurship and the future prosperity of communities.

That is why ALIGN encourages people to examine policies carefully, question institutions and make informed civic decisions.

Choose wisely. The institutions we build today shape the lives we inherit tomorrow.

FOUNDED BY NATHEN MAZRI

From Entrepreneurship to Civic Innovation.

ALIGN was founded by Nathen Mazri, a Canadian entrepreneur, author and licensing researcher.

Through his experience in business, entertainment licensing, technology and public-policy discussions, Nathen developed an interest in how institutions influence economic opportunity and community prosperity.

During his 2026 campaign for Toronto City Council in Etobicoke North, ALIGN emerged as an expression of his independent political philosophy:

NOT LEFT. NOT RIGHT. DO WHAT'S RIGHT.

The movement now seeks to provide a continuing platform for civic ideas, public accountability, research and community participation beyond a single election.

ALIGN is not affiliated with a political party.

The Problem: The Exploitative Tax Loophole

While local families scramble to absorb rising costs, City Hall has quietly transformed property tax assessments into an economic weapon. Under Mayor Olivia Chow’s administration, property taxes were jacked up by a staggering 9.5%, followed by an additional 6.9% burden.

Worse, this system is heavily rigged against Ward 1 (Etobicoke North/Rexdale). Because property valuations are...

Do Not Voters

In the 2025 federal election, turnout was about 69%, meaning roughly 31% of eligible voters did not cast a ballot. That's approximately 8.9 million eligible Canadians. If you want to use a number, use municipal turnout. Toronto's 2022 municipal election had turnout of about 29%, meaning roughly 71% of eligible voters did not vote.
